It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget to savor the moment. To postpone investing in yourself, your home or your dreams because there’s no time now. You’ll live your dream life eventually, in some magical future, when you move apartments, get a new job, find a husband, turn 50 or whatever it is you’re waiting for. Daphne Oz, daughter of the famous Dr. Mehmet Oz and co-host of ABC’s “The Chew,” disagrees. Her philosophy: “To have that dream life down the line, you need to start living like you want it – laying the foundation, acting the part, doing the searching and finding – now.” And she’s written an awesome book called Relish: An Adventure in Food, Style, and Everyday Fun to show you how.
Daphne’s book is equal parts Food, Style and Life wisdom, offering readers advice on everything from decorating a living room to sharing her morning exercise routine. I find myself constantly flipping through her book, but my favorite sections by far are the recipes and personal health tips. Like the French novelist Antoine De Saint-Exupery said, “As for the future, your task is not to forsee it but to enable it.” If you want to have an active, energetic and healthy life down the road – and beautiful skin to match – you need to start paving the way now. And nutrient-dense foods and holistic self-care are what will get you there!
It can be hard to strike a decadent and healthy balance when it comes to food, but Daphne’s recipes are perfection. Every recipe is delicious and nutritious, from the Fudgy Chocolate Banana Flax Muffins for breakfast and Roasted Cauliflower Grilled Cheese for lunch, to the Chili Jam Chicken with Caramelized Sweet Potatoes and Peaches for dinner. My husband and I have made her recipes over and over again, and Relish has become our go-to cookbook. Even if you aren’t interested in the lifestyle sections, the recipes alone are reason enough to get this book! From simple fare to dishes bursting with superfoods, there’s something for all palates.
Plus who doesn’t love a girl that whips up her own natural face masks and hair moisturizers? Hope you relish this excerpt from Daphne’s book featuring her tried-and-true Radiant Skin Mask!
1/2 ripe banana, mashed
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed or ground almonds
1 1/2 teaspoons raw honey
Combine all the ingredients in a bowl. Apply to clean skin in a circular motion to help the ground flaxseed or almonds exfoliate dead skin cells. Allow to sit 10 minutes, then remove with a wet washcloth. The minerals in bananas help to fortify your skin cells, while the lactic acid in yogurt smooths and softens. Honey is a natural antibacterial and moisturizer helping to keep your skin hydrated and breakout-free! Follow with a toner and moisturizer for your skin type.
