Are botanical infusions and essential oils safe for my skin?
Yes, all blossom jar face and body oils are formulated with ingredients that have been shown to be safe and effective for hundreds of years. Unless you have a severely compromised immune system, our products are healthier and safer than most others out on the market.
Will oil cause breakouts, make my skin sticky, or do any of the other things I’ve heard about that makes oil ‘bad?’
No! There are still some misinformed and untrue myths that circulate about oil. Get the facts and learn about how incredible oil is for skin health and beauty on our We Love Oil page.
How do I know if I’m allergic to essential oils or the infusion blossoms?
As with any beauty or skin care product, do a small patch test on skin (inside your elbow, on your wrist or the bottom of your foot) and wait at least 24 hours. If any irritation develops, discontinue use.
Please note that almond oil is the main base for our products, so proceed carefully if you suffer from nut allergies. If you have ragweed or daisy allergies, the Oily, Hormonal and Sensitive skin blends may be slightly irritating for you as there is chamomile and yarrow in the blends. Such allergies are very rare, but possible. blossom jar cannot be held responsible for any reactions.
What’s the best way to have the oil absorb fully into my skin?
Always apply oil to damp skin. It will absorb beautifully. If you overdo it and still have some lingering product on the skin’s surface, use a soft cloth to massage the oil into skin and wipe away.
How long will each bottle last?
A one-ounce bottle should last anywhere from 2-5 months. If you apply the product twice daily and like to be very moisturized, then it will be closer to the two month mark. If you only apply a few drops once a day, then it will last much longer.
How much oil should I apply to my skin?
Start with 4-7 drops and increase as needed depending on your skin and the season. During the summer you can probably use less, while the colder winter months might demand more.
Why do I need to gently shake the oil before using?
Shaking the oil gently before each use ensures that the various essential oils, base oils and minuscule botanical particles are evenly distributed and ready to pamper your skin!
Can blossom jar oils be used during pregnancy?
The ingredients in all our face oils (except the oily skin blend) are safe for women in their second and third trimester. However, we advise customers not to use our products during pregnancy (especially the first trimester) or while breastfeeding given the many different hormonal and skin changes that can occur during this time. We believe it’s best to use very basic skin care (like plain almond or coconut oil) during pregnancy, but leave the decision up to the individual mama-to-be.
Why are natural products better than regular skincare options at the store?
Our favorite adage – “It’s what is on the inside that matters” – pretty much sums it up. We want our products and blends to contain the best, high-quality natural ingredients. We don’t take shortcuts with chemicals or synthetic natural extracts.
There is an herbal medicine philosophy that says plants are most effective when all the components work together and are not isolated from one another. The ‘natural extracts’ you see advertised on many mainstream products are simply a handful of compounds out of hundreds found in a single plant. Numerous studies have found that when labs try to isolate a small group of compounds, they unintentionally make them unstable and less potent. In other words, the ‘whole is greater than the sum of all its parts.’ Therefore, our infusions keep the flower blossoms, leaves and roots intact so you get the full, intended natural benefits of the plants and herbals.
Lastly, products made from chemicals, additives and ‘natural’ extracts have to sit on store shelves for years and need preservatives to keep them stable – many of which have been linked to cancer and other health problems. Since we’re a small beauty company, we’re concerned about a lot more than just our bottom line, so we have the power to bypass ingredient manipulation and produce the healthiest natural product possible.
How are blossom jar’s products different from other natural beauty companies?
Instead of just adding essential oils to a base oil, our face and body oils go through an extensive, traditional infusion process that extracts the botanical properties of carefully-selected organic flower blossoms, herbs, roots and leaves. Once the infusion is complete, we combine additional beneficial oils when necessary and layer in essential oils that complement and work synergistically with the blend.
Also, we don’t believe in creating complicated formulas with expensive and trendy “exotic” ingredients. We choose to rely on tried-and-true botanicals and oils that have stood the test of time and continue to deliver beautiful results. Voila!
