How To Apply Facial Oils and Serums

How to Apply Almond, Coconut, Olive or Rosehip Facial Oils and Serums - Dampen Skin

Knowing how to apply facial oils and serums may seem like a no-brainer – many would say ‘Just slather it on!’ – but there is an easy and less wasteful way to maximize the benefits of your blossom jar products: simply make sure your skin is damp and start with fewer drops.

A light mist of water or nourishing toner will do wonders for the absorption of your facial oil. This is especially true for men, who have thicker skin in general and whose faces take a beating due to frequent shaving. When H2O particles come in contact with skin, the pores begin to open. This allows the facial oil or serum to get down to where it is needed and begin doing its healing work. Closed pores make it harder for oils to penetrate the dermis, potentially leaving you with a shiny complexion and wasting your product.

So what does the process look like? After cleansing, you can forgo drying your face and just apply the oil directly. Or you can dry skin with a towel and then put some filtered water into a spray bottle, apply a skin-specific toner, or mist yourself with rose water (my personal favorite). Once your skin has a thin coating of one of these water-based sprays, rub 3-5 drops of blossom jar facial oil between the tips of your fingers and gently massage into skin, adding more drops as needed. By starting with damp skin and going easy on the drops, you’ll help skin adjust to a natural product regime and ensure you’re getting the most out of your potent skincare oils and serums.

P.S. The same goes for applying body oil!
